Hadronic cross - sections in γγ processes and the next linear

چکیده
In this note we address the issue of theoretical estimates of the hadronic cross-sections for γγ processes. We compare the predictions of the minijet model with data as well as other models, highlighting the band of uncertainties in the theoretical predictions as well as those in the final values of the σ(γγ → hadrons) extracted from the data. We find that the rise of σ γγ with energy shown in the latest γγ data is in tune with the faster rise expected in the Eikonal Minijet Models (EMM). We present an estimate of the accuracy with which this cross-section needs to be measured, in order to distinguish between the different theoretical models which try to ‘explain ’ the rise of total cross-sections with energy. We find that the precision of measurement required to distinguish the EMM type models from the proton-like models, for 300 < √ sγγ < 500 GeV, is ∼ 20%, whereas to distinguish between various proton-like models or among the different parametrizations of the EMM, a precision of < ∼8−9% or < ∼6−7% respectively, is required. We also comment briefly on the implications of these predictions for hadronic backgrounds at the next linear collider (NLC) to be run in the γγ mode or ee mode.

Hadronic Cross-sections in two photon Processes at a Future Linear Collider
In this note we address the issue of measurability of the hadronic crosssections at a future photon collider as well as for the two-photon processes at a future high energy linear ee collider. We extend, to higher energy, our previous estimates of the accuracy with which the γγ cross-section needs to be measured, in order to distinguish between different theoretical models of energy dependence ...

We study the processes γ e → γ e and γγ → γγ, in the context of the proposal for Weak Scale Quantum Gravity (WSQG) with large extra dimensions. With an ultraviolet cutoff M S ∼ 1 TeV for the effective gravity theory, the cross sections obtained for these processes at the Next Linear Collider (NLC), with the eγ an γγ options, deviate from the predictions of the Standard Model significantly. Our ...

We discuss total cross-sections within the context of the QCD calculable mini-jet model, highlighting its successes and failures. In particular we show its description of γγ → hadrons and compare it with OPAL and L3 data. We extrapolate this result to γ p total cross-sections and propose a phenomenological ansätz for virtual photon cross-sections. We point out that the good agreement with data ...

متن کاملEikonalised minijet model predictions for cross-sections of photon induced processes
In this talk I present the results of an analysis of total and inelastic hadronic cross-sections for photon induced processes in the framework of an eikonalised minijet model(EMM). We fix the various input parameters to the EMM calculations by using the data on photoproduction cross-sections and then make predictions for σ(γγ → hadrons) using same values of the parameters. We then compare our p...
